On the first day of the year 2024, at least five inmates previously convicted of armed robbery were executed in Karaj Central Prison.
According to reports obtained by the Hengaw organization for Human Rights, on January 1, 2024, the execution order for 5 inmates previously sentenced to death for arm robbery were carried out in Karaj central prison.
Hossein Fazli Harkendi, the Chief Justice of Alborz Province, outlined the charges against the five, describing them as members of an armed robbery gang that posed a threat to public safety, infused fear, and caused significant damage to people's property in multiple provinces.
In ISNA’s report as well as in chief justice statement, the identities of the executed prisoners and further details of their cases were not disclosed.
According to the statistics recorded at the Hengaw organization for Human Rights, a total of 823 prisoners were executed in the prisons of the Islamic Republic of Iran during the year 2023.
