Keyvan Rashu Zadeh, a political prisoner from Urmia who is serving a 7-year and 6-month sentence in Urmia Central Prison, has been on a hunger strike since Monday, June 13, 2022, in protest of the prison authorities' refusal to send him on leave.

An informed source from Urmia Prison stated that following the announcement of the hunger strike of Keyvan Rashu Zadeh, the Kurdish political prisoner was transferred to solitary confinement in Urmia Central Prison yesterday and no news of his fate is available.

Keyvan Rashu Zadeh was arrested by the Intelligence Service forces in Urmia on October 8, 2019, along with four more citizens, identitified as Omid Saeedi, Kamran Ghasemi, Abdol Aziz Mohammad Pour, and Naeb Haji Pour. They were transferred to the detention center of this security institution in Urmia.

A hearing on the charges of the five citizens was held in December 2020 in Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia, headed by Judge "Sheikhlou". They were each sentenced to ten years and one day in prison on charges of Acting Against National Security through "Membership in the Kurdistan Komala party of Iran."

It is worth mentioning that the mentioned sentences were later reduced to 7 years and 6 months of imprisonment by applying Article 442 of the Criminal Procedure Code, and the five prisoners are currently serving their sentences in Urmia Central Prison without having the right to leave.

It is noteworthy that Keyvan Rashu Zadeh is married and had only been living with his wife for three months at the time of his arrest.
