Hengaw : A Kurdish political prisoner from Maku district of West Azerbaijan (Urmia) province in Iranian , who is being held in Urmia Central Prison, has gone on a hunger strike.

 According to a report received by Hengaw Human Rights Organization, Mustafa Sabzi, a Kurdish political prisoner from Maku , has gone on a hunger strike on Monday, December 21, 2020, in protest of disapproval of his leave to attend his brother's funeral by Urmia Central Prison’a authorities . 

Few days ago his brother lost his life due to the Corona Virus infection and the prison authorities granted his leave to attend his brother's funeral depending on providing a bail of one billion tomans($40000) . Despite the requested bail, Prison’s authorities including the supervising judge, prevented him from being granted leave.

 Mostafa Sabzi,  from Maku , was detained  by Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards in Urmia in June 2014 and was interrogated for two months in a security detention center in Urmia.  He was sentenced to 15 years in prison by Second Branch of The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court in Urmia a few months later on charges of "membership in the Free Life Party of Kurdistan (PJAK)."  This verdict was also confirmed in the Urmia Court of Appeal.
