Prisoner swallows broken glass pieces to commit suicide in solitary confinement

Hengaw: Adel Mokarram, a political prisoner in Urmia central prison who committed self immolation on Sunday, tried to commit suicide once again by swallowing broken glass pieces in his solitary confinement. He is in a bad physical conditio now.

According to the report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Monday evening at 8 P.M, October 19, 2020, Adel Mokarram, a political prisoner in Urmia central prison, tried to commit suicide by swallowing broken glass pieces in his solitary confinement after committing self_immolation two days before. 

An informed source from Urmia central prison said that Adel Mokarram spent the last night in prison clinic for intense treatment and on Tuesday afternoon at 14 P.M, October 20, 2020, he was transferred to a hospital outside of the prison for surgery after his physical condition got worse.

Adel Mokarram committed self_immolation on Sunday, October 27, 2020, while the judge and the prison principal were present. He was transferred to solitary confinement afterwards without receiving any treatment.

The political prisoner went on a hunger strike on Sunday, October 4, 2020, to protest his 10_month detention without any judicial decision on his case and he ended the hunger strike after he was promised to get his requests being done.

Adel Mokarram, 30, was deported from Turkey to Iran through Khoy borders, West Azerbaijan Province, on December 2019, and was detained for 20 days in the detention center of the Ettelaat (Iranian Intelligence Service) in Khoy and was investigated. After that he was transferred to Khoy prison. Finally he was transferred to Urmia prison and after 10 months the judiciary has not made any decisions on his case.

Adel Mokarram was trialed on September 3, 2020, by the second branch of the revolution court presided over by judge Shekhlou and was convicted for the membership in a kurdish party and illegal departure from the country.

Adel Mokarram was previously a member of the Kurdistan Democratic party of Iran and had gone to Turkey on 2019 summer and had applied as asylum seeker to get a refugee status.
