April 2024: 37 Kurdish Kolbars Killed or Injured at the Borders of Iran

According to data compiled by the Statistics and Documents Center of the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, in April 2024, at least 37 Kurdish Kolbars were killed or injured along the borders of Iran. Of these incidents, 92% involved direct gunfire from the Iranian armed forces. The statistics reveal a decrease of 59% compared to February.

According to the report, four Kolbars and local traders lost their lives, with 33 others sustaining injuries. Notably, at least three adolescent Kolbars—Parsa Hossaini and Sahand, both 16 years old from Paveh, Kermanshah Province, and Mahan Moradi, 17 years old from Javanroud, Kermanshah Province—injured by gunfire from Iranian border guards.

Mehrdad Abdullah Zadeh of Sardasht, Omid Saidi of Sanandaj, Saivan Dast Afkan of Marivan, and Shvaneh Ahmadpour of Baneh lost their lives due to fatal gunshot wounds inflicted by border guards of the Islamic Republic of Iran. These Kolbars were struck in vital areas including the heart, chest, and head.

The highest number of victims, totaling 20 cases, was documented at the borders of Kurdistan (Sanandaj) province.
 

The causes of death or injury are outlined as follows:

* Direct shooting: 34 cases (4 killed and 30 wounded), constituting 92% of the total incidents.
* Mountain falling: 3 cases (3 wounded), accounting for 8% of the total cases.

Breakdown of victims by province:

* Kermanshah (Krmashan) province: 16 cases (16 wounded).
* Kurdistan province (Sanandaj): 20 cases (3 killed and 17 wounded).
•  West Azerbaijan (Urmia province) : 1 case ( 1 killed).
