In August 2024, at least 94 prisoners were executed in the prisons of the Islamic Republic of Iran, marking a significant increase compared to the previous month. This figure represents a 71% rise, with 39 more executions than in July, when 55 prisoners were executed. Notably, 21% of those executed this month were Kurds.
The Statistics and Documents Center of the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights has confirmed the identities of 77 out of the 94 executed prisoners, with the identities of the remaining 17 still under investigation.
Among the executed were at least 20 Kurdish prisoners, comprising 21% of the total. The executions also included at least 14 Afghan citizens and a Kurdish man from Kirkuk, Iraqi Kurdistan.
In August, the death sentence of Reza Rasaei, a Kurdish political prisoner and follower of the Yarsan religion, was secretly carried out in Kermanshah Central Prison. Rasaei was arrested during the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement. No executions of women or children were recorded in August.
