At least 88 Prisoners executed in Iranian Prisons during February 2025

In the past month, at least 88 prisoners were executed in prisons across Iran, marking a 780% increase compared to February 2024, when only 10 prisoners were executed. Notably, 24% of those executed were Kurdish prisoners.

The Statistics and Documents Centre of Hengaw Organization for Human Rights has confirmed the identities of 81 prisoners, while 7 others remain under investigation.

Among those executed, three were women, who were hanged in Khorramabad, Sari, and Shiraz after being convicted of premeditated murder. No executions of minors under the age of 18 were recorded during this period.

Of the 88 executions, only 6 were reported in Iran’s official media or judiciary-affiliated websites. Additionally, 4 prisoners were executed in secret without notifying their families or granting them a final visit. One prisoner was executed in public in Esfarayen.

Breakdown by national and ethnic minorities:

At least 21 Kurdish prisoners were executed, accounting for 24% of the total cases. Additionally 14 Lor prisoners equivalent to 6.5% of executions were executed:

 • Turks: 9 cases
 • Balochs: 7 cases
 • Afghans: 5 cases
 • Gilak and Mazani: 5 cases
 • Persians: 22 cases
 • unknown: 3 cases
 • Tat: 1 cases
 • Turkmen: 1 case

Breakdown by charges:

The majority of executions were related to drug offenses, which accounted for 46.5% of all cases:
  
    •    Drug-related crimes: 41 cases
    •    Premeditated murder: 39 cases
    •    Rape: 6 cases
     •   Armed robbery: 3 cases

Breakdown of executions by provinces:

The highest number of executions took place in Isfahan Province, where 20 prisoners were executed. Executions were recorded in 18 provinces, with Alborz Province ranking second with 16 executions:

 • Isfahan: 20 cases
 • Alborz: 16 cases
 • Kermanshah: 10 cases
 • Loresran: 7 cases
 • Khuzestan: 6 cases
 • Fars and Mazandaran: 4 cases each
 • Gilan, Golestan, and East Azerbaijan: 3 cases each
 • Zanjan, Razavi Khorasan, and South Khorasan: 2 cases each
 • Kerman, Markazi, Qazvin, Kurdistan (Sanandaj), West Azerbaijan (Urmia), and North Khorasan: 1 case each
