At least 96 executed in Iranian prisons in July 2025

During the past month, at least 96 prisoners were executed in the prisons of the Islamic Republic of Iran. This represents an increase of at least 41 cases—equivalent to 74.5%—compared to July 2024, when 55 executions were recorded.
The Statistics and Documents Centre of Hengaw Organization for Human Rights has confirmed the identities of 90 executed prisoners, while the identities of six others are still under investigation.
Among those executed in July were at least two political prisoners from Tehran, Mehdi Hassani and Behrooz Ehsani Eslamloo, who were secretly executed in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.
At least three women were executed in the prisons of Yazd, Shiraz, and Mashhad. Atefeh Amini of Yazd was executed on charges of premeditated murder; Nahid Jokar of Shiraz and Mahtab Bayatni of Mashhad were executed on drug-related charges.
Of the 96 executions carried out in July, only four executions were officially announced by Iranian government sources and judiciary-affiliated websites. Additionally, two executions were carried out secretly, without notifying the prisoners’ families or granting the right to a final visit. Two executions were carried out publicly in the cities of Bukan and Damghan.

At least 14 Lor prisoners were executed in July, accounting for 14.5% of the total executions. The executions also included 13 Turkish prisoners, 11 Kurdish prisoners, and 9 Baluch prisoners.

The majority of executions in July were related to drug offenses, totaling 46 cases and accounting for 48% of all executions.

The highest number of executions was recorded in the prisons of Fars Province, with 11 cases. Executions were carried out across 22 provinces. Following Fars, the provinces with the highest numbers were Hamadan with 10 cases, and Alborz with 7 cases.
