Christian convert Tumaj Aryankia sentenced to 10 Years in prison and social activity ban

Tumaj Aryankia, a Christian convert, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and a two-year ban on participating in social activities by the judiciary of Islamic Republic of Iran. l

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Tumaj Aryankia was sentenced 10-year imprisonment and a two-year prohibition on social activities. The sentence was issued by Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court in Karaj, presided over by Judge Mostafa Narimani.

Mohabat news website reported that Aryankia was convicted on charges of “propaganda against the state through proselytizing Christianity,” “collaboration with hostile governments,” and “membership in anti-government groups.” An appeal for reconsideration of the ruling was rejected, and Aryankia is now awaiting the outcome of a second appeal.

Aryankia was originally arrested on October 24, 2022, by plainclothes security forces. During the arrest, authorities confiscated religious books and personal belongings from his home.

He was detained for 28 days in solitary confinement and 40 additional days in the general ward of Karaj Prison before being released on bail of 5 billion tomans.
