Five Arabs from Ahvaz, identified as Reza Hezbavi, Mehdi Samiri, Nabi Samirat, Mehdi Samirat, and Ahmad Samirat, were arrested after being summoned to the Revolutionary Court of Ahvaz. They have been transferred to Ahvaz Central Prison (Shiban).
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Monday, December 2, 2024, these five individuals were arrested following their court appearance and subsequently transferred to Ahvaz Central Prison.
Hengaw has learned that these individuals were first detained at Ahvaz Airport upon returning from Hajj. Their mobile phones were confiscated, and they underwent several hours of interrogation before being permitted to leave. In the subsequent weeks, they were repeatedly summoned and interrogated by the Intelligence Department’s News Headquarters.
According to the Karun Human Rights Organization, the primary charge against these individuals is performing Sunni prayers during their pilgrimage. Furthermore, Reza Hezbavi’s wife was also summoned for interrogation.
It is noteworthy that Reza Hezbavi had previously been arrested in 2009 for participating in cultural activities. He was released a month later on bail from Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz.
