Executions at Ghezel Hesar Prison reach 5, including 2 Afghan nationals

The death sentences of Ashkan Piryan, a resident of Karaj convicted of premeditated murder, and two Afghan nationals were carried out at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. Hengaw previously reported on the execution of two other inmates at the same prison on the same day.
According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, the death sentence of Ashkan Piryan, 29 years old and from Karaj, was carried out at Ghezel Hesar Prison. Piryan had been arrested three years earlier for charges of premeditated murder and subsequently sentenced to death by the judiciary.
Simultaneously, two Afghan nationals were also executed. The identity of one of them has been confirmed as Amanullah Tajik, while the identity of the second Afghan prisoner is still under investigation. Both had been convicted of premeditated murder.
Hengaw had earlier reported the execution of two other prisoners at the same prison on the same day. Salman Bozorgmehr, a resident of Eyvanki, Semnan Province, and Reza Azizi, from Tehran, were executed on charges related to drug offenses.
As of the time this report was published, the executions of these five prisoners have not been officially announced by government-affiliated media outlets, including those linked to the judiciary.
