Hengaw: Monday, January 16, 2023 

Based on the statistics registered in the statistics and documentation center of the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, in 2022, at least 290 Kurdish Kolbers and tradesmen were killed or injured, of whom 46 lost their lives and 244 were injured. This statistic has increased by at least 75 cases, equivalent to 35%, compared to 2021. 

Most of the victims, which include 209 cases, were killed or injured by direct fire from the Iranian government forces; 35 cases were killed or injured due to natural accidents such as falling from the mountain, drowning in the river, lightning, an avalanche, and frostbite. 

 
Cause of death or injury: 

Based on the statistics registered in the statistics and documentation center of the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the number of people killed or wounded by the Iranian government forces in 2022 has increased by at least 69 cases, equivalent to 49%, compared to 2021. Also, the number of people killed by landmine explosions has increased by 300%. 

Direct firing from the Iranian armed forces: 209 cases (33 killed and 176 injured), equivalent to 72.5% of total cases. 

Natural accidents: 35 cases (8 killed and 27 injured), equivalent to 12.5% of total cases 

Mine explosion: 12 cases (12 wounded), equivalent to 4% of total cases 

Traffic accidents: 25 cases (1 killed and 24 injured), equivalent to 5% of total cases 

Gas and fire: 5 cases (4 killed and 1 injured), equivalent to 2% of total cases 

Beating by armed forces: 4 cases (4 wounded), equivalent to 1.5% of total cases 

 
Separation by province: 

According to this report, in 2022, the number of Kolbers who were targeted in the borders of Kermanshah province was 161 cases, which is an increase of 58 cases from 2021, equivalent to 211%, while the numbers recorded in western Azerbaijan province (Urmia) have been recorded as 20, which showed a 60% decrease compared to 2021. 

West Azerbaijan province (Urmia): 20 cases (13 killed and 7 injured). 

Kurdistan province (Sanandaj): 108 cases (22 killed and 86 injured). 

Kermanshah province (Kermashan): 162 cases (11 killed and 151 injured). 
  
In 2022, 11 underage Kolber were killed or injured: 

Based on the statistics registered in the statistics and documentation center of the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, in 2022, at least 11 Kolbers and tradesmen under the age of 18 had been killed or injured. 

According to this report, four teenagers lost their lives and seven others were injured. 

Four of these Kolbers were killed by direct fire from the Iranian government forces; two were killed by beatings by government forces; one was killed by a mine explosion; three were killed by fire; and one was killed by an avalanche. 

The number of underage children targeted in 2022 has increased by 5 cases, or 83%, compared to last year. 

 
Also, a Kolber was killed by direct fire from the Turkish armed forces:

In 2022, one Kolber was killed by the direct fire of the Turkish armed forces on the borders, which has decreased by 80% compared to 2021 with five cases. 

 
8 tradesmen were killed and wounded on the roads: 

Based on the statistics of Hengaw, at least 8 tradesmen have been killed or wounded on the roads of Kurdistan and other cities of Iran in 2022, and 3 of them have lost their lives. 

These eight people were all killed or injured by direct fire from the Iranian armed forces on the roads of Saravabad, Salas-e Babajani, Baneh, Kangavar, Ahwaz (two cases), Nodesheh, and Kamiyaran.
