Six days have passed since the death of a prisoner in Urmia Central Prison due to the lack of medical attention and the prison authorities have refused to hand over his body to his family.

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, a prisoner accused of drug-related crimes named Farhad Naghizadeh, 47, died on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, due to the lack of appropriate medical treatment and delay in being transferred to the hospital. He lost his life while being transferred to medical centers outside the prison.

According to an informed source from Urmia Prison, Farhad Naghizadeh suffered a heart attack in prison and died due to the delay in being transferred to medical centers, and also due to the neglect of the supervisor judge and the head of the prison (Bakhshi).

It should be mentioned that six days after the death of Farhad Naghizadeh, the Iranian government institutions refused to hand over his body to his family under the pretext of the residence of Mr. Naghizadeh's wife and children.

Five years ago, Farhad Naghizadeh was arrested by the Iranian government forces and sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Iranian Judiciary on charges of drug trafficking.
