Prisoner dies due to lack of medical care in Lakan Prison

A Gilak prisoner held in Lakan Prison, Rasht, identified as Bahram Darvishi, has died due to lack of medical care and deprivation of his basic right to treatment.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Bahram Darvishi, 31, a resident of Kuchesfahan, Gilan, passed away in Lakan Prison on Monday, February 10, 2025, after being denied necessary medical attention.
Darvishi was arrested nearly 10 years ago on theft charges and was ultimately sentenced to return the stolen property by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
However, due to financial hardship, he and his family have been unable to comply with the ruling over the past decade.
