Baloch prisoner dies in Zahedan after delayed medical care

Hengaw: Friday, May 9, 2025
Hafiz Rakhshani, a 36-year-old Baloch prisoner from the Karimabad neighborhood of Zahedan, died of cardiac arrest in Zahedan Central Prison, due to inadequate medical care.
According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Rakhshani passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025, after being transferred late to a hospital outside the prison. Despite being taken to Zahedan’s Social Security Hospital, he did not receive the necessary medical attention and died shortly thereafter.
Sources familiar with the case confirmed that the delay in medical response played a critical role in his death.
This incident comes amid growing concern over healthcare neglect in Iranian prisons. At least two other prisoners—Jamshid Gorgij and Yousef Rakhshani—also died in Zahedan Central Prison in recent months, both due to cardiac arrest.
Rakhshani had been imprisoned for the past three years on charges of theft. His body has been transferred to the hospital morgue.
