The death sentence of Zarkhatovan Mazarzehi, a Baloch woman incarcerated for drug-related offenses, has been carried out at Kerman Central Prison. This marks the execution of at least 16 women in less than 11 months.

According to reports obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on the morning of Wednesday, November 15, 2023, Zarkhatovan Mazarzehi, a 46-year-old resident of Khash, Sistan-Balouchistan province, originally from Saravan, was executed at the central prison of Kerman.

As reported by the Haalvsh News Website, Zarkhatovan Mazarzehi, a mother to a daughter, was apprehended six years ago while traveling from Kerman to Shiraz. Subsequently, she received a death sentence from the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran on charges related to drug offenses.

Notably, as of the time of reporting, the execution of this woman has not been officially disclosed in government media, particularly in outlets affiliated with the judiciary.

Based on statistics documented in the Statistics and Documentation Center of the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at least 16 female prisoners within the prisons of the Islamic Republic of Iran have been executed.
