Execution of Two Prisoners in Ghezel Hesar Prison

The death sentences of two prisoners, Mohammad Hossein Garavand and Kaiumars Gholami, were carried out in Ghezel Hesar prison in Karaj. The execution was related to charges stemming from drug crimes.
According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Kaiumars Gholami, a 41-year-old from Sarablah, Ilam province, and Mohammad Hossein Gravand from Kohdasht, Lorestan province, were executed at Ghezel Hezar prison at dawn on Monday, January 8, 2024.
These two prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement on Sunday, January 7, from Unit 2, Ward 15 of Ghezel Hesar Prison for the execution of their death sentences.
Both prisoners had been arrested for drug-related charges and subsequently sentenced to death by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
As of the time of reporting, the execution of these prisoners has not been officially announced in government media, particularly outlets associated with the judiciary.
Based on data registered in the Statistics and Documentation Center of Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at least 11 Kurdish prisoners have been executed in Iran's prisons during the past week.
