The clandestine execution of three prisoners, Baloch and Kurdish, who had previously received death sentences on drug-related charges, occurred in Birjand Central Prison, South Khorasan. The verified identities include Baloch prisoners Ismail Qadir Maqam and Ahmad Gergij, as well as Kurdish prisoner Mohammad Hissari.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on the early morning of Wednesday, December 27, 2023, the death sentences of 32-year-old Ismail Qadir Maqam from Zahedan, 30-year-old Ahmad Gergij from Zabul, and 50-year-old Mohammad Hesari from Kangavar in Birjand Central Prison were carried out.

Hengaw received information indicating that another Kurdish prisoner, currently held in solitary confinement, has temporarily suspended his death sentence and may face execution in the coming days.

Arrested four years ago on charges related to drug crimes, Ismail Qadir Maqam, Ahmad Gergij, and Mohammad Hesari were sentenced to death by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The execution of these prisoners was conducted covertly, with their families left uninformed and deprived of the right to a final visit.

Notably, this news concerning the three prisoners has yet to be disclosed by government media, particularly outlets associated with the judiciary, as of the time of reporting.
