Birjand Central Prison witnessed the execution of six prisoners, including four Baloch individuals and two from the cities of Mashhad and Birjand. These individuals had previously received death sentences for drug-related offenses.
According to reports obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Sunday, December 31, 2023, the death sentences of four Baloch prisoners—34-year-old Shir Ahmad Sanjrani, father of seven children, and 50-year-old Amanullah Sanjrani, father of nine children, both residents of Zahedan, along with 41-year-old Bidollah Brahui from the city of Zahak and 33-year-old Ghousalddin Nahtani from Darmian—were carried out in Birjand Central Prison.
Simultaneously, the death sentences of two other prisoners, 35-year-old Javad Chopani from Birjand and Hamid Jahani from Mashhad, were executed. All six individuals had been initially arrested for drug-related crimes and subsequently sentenced to death by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to Haalvsh news agency, Shir Ahmad Sanjrani and Amanullah Sanjrani had been arrested four and two years ago, respectively, on charges related to drug-related crimes and were sentenced to death shortly thereafter.
