Qader Gorgij, a Baloch inmate, lost his life due to a lack of medical attention and delays in being transferred to a hospital in Zahedan.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Sunday, April 21, 2024, 52-year-old Qader Gorgij, a resident of Zahedan, passed away due to inadequate medical care and the authorities’ delay in arranging his transfer to a hospital for treatment. He had spent the last 2 years, 6 months, and 22 days in the central prison in Zahedan.

He was eventually transferred to the prison infirmary on Monday in critical condition and then to the public healthcare hospital in Zahedan, where he succumbed to his condition.

Sources close to the case revealed that despite the family’s efforts and Mr. Gorgij’s poor health conditions, including underlying heart disease and high blood pressure, the prison authorities did not permit his transfer to a hospital outside the prison for treatment.

Mr. Gorgij was detained on October 1, 2021, during a raid on his residence without the presentation of any judicial warrant. Since then, he had been held in Zahedan prison with an indeterminate status. The Iranian government authorities claimed his detention was due to drug-related offenses.
