Zahedan Central Prison: Baloch prisoner Mehdi Narouei dies due to lack of medical care

A Baloch prisoner identified as Mehdi Narouei (also known as Yousef Derakhshani) has died of cardiac arrest in Zahedan Central Prison due to the lack of timely and adequate medical care.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, 21-year-old Mehdi Narouei from the Shirabad neighborhood of Zahedan passed away following a heart attack, exacerbated by prison authorities’ failure to provide proper medical attention.

Sources familiar with the case reported that Narouei was being held in Ward 2 of Zahedan Central Prison. Prison officials notified his family of his death a full day after the incident occurred.

His body has since been returned to his family and transferred to the Zahedan Forensic Medicine Organization.
