Riot in the women's ward of Urmia prison following Parvin Mousavi’s transfer to solitary confinement for execution

A woman prisoner in the women's ward of Urmia Central Prison, named Parvin Mousavi, who was previously sentenced to death for drug-related charges, was transferred to solitary confinement in this prison to carry out her death sentence. Simultaneously, the prisoners of the “Naswan” ward protested and clashed with the prison officers.

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Thursday, May 16, 2024, a 50-year-old woman named Parvin Mousavi from Maragheh, East Azerbaijan province, was transferred to solitary confinement at Urmia Central Prison to carry out her death sentence.

An informed source confirmed that when Parvin Mousavi was transferred to the cell, some women rioted and protested, and in the meantime, some items inside the cell were set on fire.

Pravin Mousavi was arrested four years ago for drug-related charges and was sentenced to death by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In June of last year, she was transferred to a cell to carry out her death sentence and was returned to the women's ward of Urmia Central Prison.

This woman prisoner was diagnosed with cancer in the prison, and her health status was previously reported to be unfavorable.
