Critical Health Condition of Kurdish Trader Following Gunfire from Iranian Military Forces

Samran Mokhberi, a young Kurdish trader from Sardasht in West Azerbaijan province, Iran, remains in critical condition after being shot by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) a week ago.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the incident occurred on June 13, 2024, when Mokhberi, 25, was suspected of carrying contraband and was directly targeted while driving. Mokhberi was struck in the back by a bullet, which penetrated his body and caused severe lung damage.

He underwent initial surgery at Khomeini Hospital in Urmia, and due to the gravity of his injuries, he is scheduled to be transferred to Milad Hospital in the same city for further treatment.

Mokhberi’s critical condition has placed immense psychological and physical stress on his family, particularly his underage child and pregnant wife.
