Ahvaz: Detention and Uncertainty Regarding the Whereabouts of Jafar Heydari, Arab Writer and Cultural Activist

Jafar Heydari, an Arab writer and cultural activist residing in Ahvaz, was detained by security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran 26 days ago, and his condition remains unknown.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Sunday, May 26, 2024, Jafar Heydari, a 38-year-old resident of Ku-ye Goldasht in Ahvaz, a cultural activist, children's book author, and director of the cultural institute "Inja Farhang Ahvaz," was detained by intelligence officers without any judicial warrant and transferred to an unknown location.

According to informed sources, despite 25 days having passed since the writer's detention, his family's efforts to obtain information about his whereabouts have been unsuccessful. Security agencies have refused to provide any response.
