Three Family Members of a Kurdish Political Activist Arrested in Piranshahr

Three members of the family of Hassan Vazhi, a Kurdish political activist in Piranshahr, namely Fatemeh Paymard, Mamosta Seyed Jamaleddin Vazhi, and Abdolhamid Vazhi, were arrested by Iranian intelligence forces and released after several hours of interrogation and threats.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Monday, July 29, 2024, Iran Ministry of Intelligence forces who had come from Tehran to Piranshahr raided the family home of Mullah Hassan Vazhi, a Kurdish political and religious figure, and arrested his wife and son, Fatemeh Paymard and Abdolhamid Vazhi, 29, and brother, Mullah Jamal Vazhi, 40.

A source close to the Vazhi family stated that the three citizens were transferred to the Piranshahr Intelligence Office after being subjected to violence and were released after several hours of interrogation and threats.

It is worth noting that Seyed Jamaleddin Vazhi, the Imam of the "Paso" village, a researcher, and writer, was also arrested during the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement and later sentenced to two years of imprisonment by the Special Clerical Islamic Court in Urmia.

Hassan Vazhi, a Kurdish political and religious figure from Piranshahr, was forced to leave his hometown several years ago due to repeated pressures and threats from the Iranian security agencies and now resides in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
