Death Sentences of Two Prisoners Carried Out in Zanjan Central Prison

The death sentences of two Kurdish and Turk prisoners named Mehdi Piri and Mazaher Eyvazi, who had previously been sentenced to death on drug-related charges, were carried out in Zanjan Central Prison.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Monday, August 19, 2024, the death sentences of Mehdi Piri, 31 years old, and Mazaher Eyvazi, 35 years old, were carried out in Zanjan Central Prison.

Mehdi Piri, a Kurdish man from Shirvan County in North Khorasan Province, had been arrested two years ago on drug-related charges. Mazaher Eyvazi, a Turkish man from Zanjan, was arrested three years ago on charges of premeditated murder and was later sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.

As of the time of this report, the execution of these two prisoners has not been announced in state media, particularly those affiliated with the Iranian judiciary.
