Three Baloch Protesters Arrested by Iranian Security Forces in Taftan

Following a protest against the extraction of a mine in Taftan, Sistan Balochistan province Mowlavi Davood Tamandani, a Baloch cleric, along with two social activists named Nazar Tamandani and Karimbakhsh Kurdi-Tamandani, were arrested by Iranian security forces.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on the evening of Saturday, October 22, 2024, Davood Tamandani, the imam of Koteh village in Taftan, and a social activist from the same village named Nazar Tamandani were arrested by the Intelligence forces.

Earlier, on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 21, Karimbakhsh Kurdi-Tamandani, a Baloch social activist and the founder of the “Save Taftan Nature” campaign, had also been arrested in the city of Taftan.

According to the Hal Vash website, intelligence officers from Khash, along with forces from the Nokabad Taftan station, went to the site of the protest in Taftan and arrested Karimbakhsh Kurdi-Tamandani after he delivered a speech.

Karimbakhsh Kurdi-Tamandani, a social and environmental activist and nature writer, launched the “Save Taftan Nature” campaign in 2022.

All three, Karimbakhsh Kurdi-Tamandani, Mowlavi Davood Tamandani, and Nazar Tamandani, have been transferred to unknown locations following their arrest, and no information about their current status or charges is available.
