Sirveh Pourmohammadi, an active member of the Nojin NGO and a Kurdish language instructor who was previously sentenced to 10 years in prison, has had her sentence reduced to five years in prison following an appeal.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Sirveh Pourmohammadi, a Kurdish language instructor and member of the Nojin NGO, has been sentenced to five years in prison by the Sanandaj Court of Appeals. This verdict was officially communicated to Pourmohammadi’s lawyers on Monday, November 25, and will be implemented in the coming days.

It is noteworthy that last year, Sirveh Pourmohammadi was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj, presided over by Judge Karami, on charges including “forming groups to disrupt security.”

On Sunday, January 29, 2023, Sirveh Pourmohammadi was arrested by government forces after appearing at the Sanandaj court to follow up on the cases of arrested members of this association.

She was eventually released temporarily on bail on February 13, 2023, following a two-week detention, pending the completion of judicial proceedings. She was held in the women’s ward of Sanandaj Central Prison, which government media refers to as the “Sanandaj Correction and Rehabilitation Center.”
