Ongoing arrests of Arab Activists: Two detained in Susangerd and Shadegan

The ongoing arrests of Sunni Arabs has resulted in the arrest of two more individuals, identified as Hossein Albou Obeid from Shadegan (Falahieh) and Emad Mazraeh from Susangerd (Khafajiyeh). Both have been arrested by security forces of Islamic Republic of Iran. They have been transferred to undisclosed locations.

According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Sunday, January 12, 2025, Hossein Albou Obeid, a 26-year-old Sunni religious activist from Shadegan in Khuzestan Province, was arrested during a raid on his family home. Security forces reportedly acted without presenting an arrest warrant, taking him to an unknown location.

Similarly, on Thursday, January 9, 2025, Emad Mazraeh, a 30-year-old Arab civil activist from Susangerd in Khuzestan Province, was arrested after security forces forcibly entered his family home. Despite five days having passed since his arrest, no information has been made available regarding his condition or whereabouts.

Hengaw has also learned that during the arrests, security forces employed excessive violence and intimidation. In addition to detaining the individuals, the forces conducted thorough searches of their homes and confiscated personal belongings, including mobile phones belonging to the detainees and their family members.
