Hassan Damani, a Baloch prisoner held in Lajvardi Prison, Iranshahr, has died due to medical negligence after being transferred to quarantine as punishment for protesting the denial of medical treatment, despite his critical health condition.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, Hassan Damani, 33, a resident of Daman, a district of Iranshahr, lost his life in Lajvardi Prison due to lack of medical care.
According to the Baloch Activists Campaign, Damani had recently fallen ill and had repeatedly protested against the denial of medical treatment for his condition. Despite his worsening health, prison authorities ignored his requests, leading to his death in custody.
Additionally, the Haalvsh news agency reported that prison officials failed to inform Damani’s family of his death. His relatives only learned about it from another prisoner. When they went to the forensic office, they were told that his body was being held in the morgue, yet they have not been allowed to retrieve his remains.
It is significant to note that three days before his death, Damani was transferred to quarantine by Behlouli, the head of prison security, and Hodi Abbasi, the prison director, as a form of punishment for his protests against the lack of medical care.
Damani had been imprisoned in Lajvardi Prison for the past seven months after being arrested on weapons possession charges.
