Former Kurdish political prisoner Sherko Tabnak arrested for imprisonment in Bukan

Sherko Tabnak, a former Kurdish political prisoner from Bukan, has been arrested and transferred to the city's prison to serve a four-month prison sentence.

According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on February 15, 2025, Sherko Tabnak, 36, a resident of Bukan, was summoned to the Sentence Enforcement Office in Bukan, where he was arrested and transferred to prison to serve his four-month sentence.

Hengaw has learned that Sherko Tabnak was recently sentenced to four months of discretionary imprisonment by Branch 101 of the Second Criminal Court of Bukan on charges of "propaganda against the regime" for carrying the Kurdistan flag in his vehicle.

This individual was previously arrested by security forces in Bukan in December 2024 and was eventually released on bail pending trial.

Sherko Tabnak had also been arrested on July 14, 2021, and was later sentenced to one year of discretionary imprisonment by Branch 101 of the Bukan Criminal Court. He was released from the city's central prison on May 6, 2022, after serving his sentence.
