Artist, Khosrow Azarbig, arrested in Tehran for “Insulting Bashar al-Assad”

Khosrow Azarbig, a daf player from Azadshahr, Golestan Province, has been arrested by Iran’s Intelligence Department in Tehran for allegedly “insulting Bashar al-Assad,” the former dictator and war criminal of Syria.

According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on the evening of Monday, February 17, 2025, 51-year-old Khosrow Azarbig was arrested by intelligence agents in Tehran.

Sources report that he had received a phone call inviting him to play the daf at a ceremony in the Niroye Havai (Air Force) district in eastern Tehran. However, upon his arrival, he was arrested by security forces.

It is noteworthy that on December 9, 2024, he had been summoned to the Azadshahr Revolutionary Court via a phone call.

Additionally, on September 20, 2024, his musical instruments were confiscated by government forces while he was performing in Tehran’s Mellat Park, and a legal case was filed against him.
