10 prisoners executed over two days in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj

This past Wednesday and Thursday, at least ten prisoners, including two Kurdish prisoners, two Afghan nationals, one Gilak prisoner, and one Baloch prisoner, who had previously been sentenced to death on charges such as rape, murder, armed robbery, and drug-related offenses, were executed in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj.
According to reports received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Thursday, the death sentences of three prisoners were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison: Aref Za’faranlou, 39, a Kurdish man from Quchan residing in Malard; Mohammad Barahouei, 35, a Baluch citizen from Zahedan; and Hossein Sasani from Tehran.
A source familiar with the matter stated that Aref Za’faranlou was arrested four years ago, while Mohammad Barahouei and Hossein Sasani were arrested three years ago in a joint case and were later sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.
According to a previous Hengaw report, at dawn on Wednesday, February 19, the death sentences of Hossein Yavari, 28, a Kurdish man from Kermanshah, and Behrouz Mohammadi from Tehran, who had been separately sentenced to death on charges of murder, were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison.
Simultaneously, Sasan Mirhadi, a Lor man from Dezful, was executed on charges of "waging war against God" (Moharebeh) through armed robbery, and Reza Anzali-chi, 45, a Gilak prisoner from Rasht, was executed on drug-related charges in the same prison.
Additionally, according to a report published by Hamshahri newspaper, on Wednesday, the execution of three individuals, including two Afghan nationals previously sentenced to death on charges of "rape," was carried out in this prison. The two Afghan prisoners had been arrested two years ago, while the third prisoner had been detained six years ago.
Besides reporting on these three prisoners, Hamshahri also published news about one prisoner executed for murder. However, the execution of six other prisoners has not yet been announced by judiciary-affiliated media.
