Hengaw: Sunday, February 23, 2025
Abolfazl Khoran, a teacher from Arak, has been detained for the past 32 days in Arak Central Prison, serving a sentence of three years and one day of imprisonment.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Abolfazl Khoran was arrested and transferred directly to Arak Central Prison to begin serving his sentence. He is currently held in a ward alongside prisoners convicted of financial crimes and theft.
Khoran was sentenced by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to three years and one day of imprisonment on charges of “insulting sacred values.” Additionally, the disciplinary board issued a ruling suspending him from teaching for one year, effective until June 2025.
Abolfazl Khoran’s imprisonment stems from his involvement in organizing a memorial ceremony on Tasu’a (the ninth day of Muharram) at the grave of Mehrshad Shahidi, one of the victims of the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” (Woman, Life, Freedom) movement. Nine other defendants in the same case have been sentenced to electronic ankle monitoring.
