Hassan Bagherinia, a former faculty member of Hakim Sabzevari University, has been sentenced by the judiciary to more than 10 years of imprisonment along with additional restrictions and penalties.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Monday, March 3, 2025, Branch 1 of the Mashhad Islamic Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Gholamreza Akbari Moghadam, sentenced Hassan Bagherinia to a total of ten years and nine months in prison. He was given six years for “forming and leading a group with the intention of disrupting national security,” fifteen months for “insulting the Supreme Leader,” and three years and six months for “assembly and collusion to commit crimes against internal security.”
In total, he has been sentenced to 10 years and 9 months in prison, considering his time already spent in detention. The verdict was verbally communicated to him.
Additionally, as part of his supplementary punishment, Hassan Bagherinia has been banned from teaching at universities, schools, and educational institutions—whether public, private, for-profit, or nonprofit—for two years. He has also been prohibited from leaving the country for two years.
Hengaw has learned that five years of his sentence have been suspended. His trial was held on January 21, 2025, in the mentioned court.
It is also noteworthy that another part of this case, concerning the charges of “spreading false information” and “inciting armed forces personnel to rebellion, desertion, surrender, or refusal to perform military duties,” remains under review by Branch 1 of the Mashhad Criminal Court.
