Hengaw: Tuesday, March 22, 2025
Hossein Ramezanpour, a teacher and union activist in Bojnord, the capital of North Khorasan province, has been sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to two years of discretionary imprisonment. He had previously been arrested and sentenced to prison.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Hossein Ramezanpour, a union activist in Bojnord, has been sentenced by Branch 105 of the Bojnord Criminal Court to two years of discretionary imprisonment on the charge of “spreading falsehoods with the intent to disturb public opinion.”
The sentence was issued based on Ramezanpour’s online activities in 2022. The case had previously been declared closed following the issuance of a general amnesty.
In recent years, Hossein Ramezanpour has repeatedly faced judicial and security reprisals for his union activities and criticism of the state’s educational and social policies. In 2022, he was also sentenced to two years in prison due to his membership in the North Khorasan Teachers’ Union and was arrested in March of that year.
After serving 20 months in prison, he was released in October of last year following the suspension of the remaining four months of his sentence. Under the new verdict, if the sentence is carried out, the previously suspended four months will be added to the new prison term.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time Hossein Ramezanpour has faced heavy judicial sentences and repressive actions for his union work and expression of critical views. In 2019, he was sentenced to 74 lashes, and in 2021, to six months in prison.
