Hengaw – Tuesday, June 30, 2026

The Iranian Judiciary has issued a new conviction against Ahmad Alizadeh, a 53-year-old retired teacher and civil activist from Abdanan (Awdanan), Ilam Province. The ruling comes while he is serving a two-year sentence of internal exile in Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the new verdict was recently delivered to Alizadeh in person by a branch of the Revolutionary Court in Ilam, presided over by Judge Rajab Mohammadi.

The court sentenced Alizadeh to two years in prison on charges of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic,” “propaganda in favor of groups opposed to the state,” and “insulting the founder and Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic.” The sentence includes credit for time he previously spent in detention.

In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a one-year travel ban, revoked his passport, and ordered him to complete 1,080 hours of unpaid compulsory public service with the Abdanan Municipality as a supplementary punishment.

Alizadeh was previously arrested during the Woman, Life, Freedom (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) movement in late September 2022 and again on January 7, 2023. He was subsequently forced into early retirement with a reduction in salary.

In his previous case, Alizadeh was sentenced to 27 months in prison on charges of “forming a group with the intent to disrupt national security,” “propaganda against the state,” and “disturbing public opinion.” He also received a two-year employment ban, a one-year ban on using social media, and two years of internal exile.

After serving part of his prison sentence and five months under house arrest with an electronic ankle monitor, Alizadeh was transferred on February 15, 2025, to Fanuj County in Sistan and Baluchestan Province to begin serving his two-year sentence of internal exile, where he remains.
