Hengaw: Thursday, April 24, 2025

Mamosta Ayat Gholami, a Kurdish Sunni cleric and former Imam of “Mohammad al-Mustafa” Mosque in Kermanshah (Kermashan), was arrested following a summons by the Special Clerical Court in the city.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Mamosta Ayat Gholami was summoned to the Kermanshah branch of the Special Clerical Court, where he was subsequently detained.

As of now, no information has been made available regarding the reasons for his arrest, the charges brought against him, or his current place of detention.

It is worth noting that on July 9, 2024, Gholami was banned from leading prayers and participating in mosque activities by the clerical authority’s security department in Kermanshah, following a summons.

Shortly after the ban, Gholami appeared in a video protesting the decision, stating that he had previously been warned to ensure that all classes and sessions at the “Mohammad al-Mustafa” Mosque be conducted under the supervision of security-approved instructors.

Mamosta Ayat Gholami cited his opposition to the killings of Kolbars (border couriers) and fuel carriers, criticism of the government, signing a statement condemning the execution of Mamosta Mohammad Khezrnajad, and the arrest and suspension of Sunni clerics as reasons for the ban on his activities.
