Dezful: Azim Heydari killed by Police gunfire while protesting against execution

Azim Heydari, a 35-year-old Lor man from Dezful, was shot and killed by Iranian security forces from Police Station No. 19 in Dezful after he protested against the execution of his relative, Karim Farokhond.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Thursday, May 1, 2025, Azim Heydari was killed by direct gunfire while standing in front of Dezful’s Police Station No. 19 as a sign of protest against the recent executions.

The execution of Karim Farokhond (25), who was a relative of Heydari, and Mahmoud Ostad-Mamzaei (28) had been carried out earlier that same morning in Dezful Central Prison. Both had been sentenced to death for armed robbery in a joint case.

It is worth noting that on Tuesday, a large number of Dezful residents gathered in front of the prison to demand the suspension of the executions. Hengaw previously reported that prison authorities opened fire on protesters during the execution process.
