Hengaw: Tuesday, May 13, 2025
Masoud Bidarigh, a 45-year-old professional boxer and champion from Gilan province, has been taken into custody to begin serving a one-year prison sentence. He was arrested after appearing at the judiciary’s sentence enforcement office in Rasht and subsequently transferred to Lakan Prison.
According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Bidarigh had previously been sentenced by a preliminary court in Rasht to one year in prison on charges of “propaganda against the state,” “insulting Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei,” and “disturbing national security.” The trial took place without the presence of his chosen legal counsel. Bidarigh has denied all charges.
His legal ordeal began in September 2024, when he was initially detained by security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He spent approximately one month under interrogation at the Intelligence Detention Center and Lakan Prison before being released on bail.
