Family left without answers 10 days after arrest of Tofiq Amini in Mahabad

Tofiq Amini, a Kurdish resident of Mahabad, was arrested by Iranian security forces ten days ago, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Amini—originally from the village of Azadi in the Mahabad region—was arrested on Sunday, May 11, 2025, without the presentation of an arrest warrant. Since then, his family has made repeated efforts to obtain information from the authorities, but they have received no response.

Sources familiar with the case reported that the arrest was carried out arbitrarily and without any legal documentation. Despite continued inquiries, no explanation has been given regarding the reason for Amini’s detention, any charges against him, or where he is being held.

The circumstances of Amini’s arrest remain unclear, and authorities have not issued any public statement regarding the case.
