Law student, bookstore manager Milad Morovati arrested in Mahabad

Milad Morovati, a Kurdish law student from Mahabad and manager of the Hêvî Bookstore, was arrested by Iranian security forces and taken to an undisclosed location.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Intelligence Department forces arrested Morovati at his workplace, the Hêvî Bookstore, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, without presenting a warrant.

Sources familiar with the case said security forces searched the bookstore during the arrest and confiscated several of Morovati's personal belongings, including his laptop and other electronic devices.

Authorities have not disclosed the reasons for Morovati's arrest, the authority responsible for the arrest, the charges against him, or his whereabouts. Efforts by his family to obtain information have so far been unsuccessful.
