Hengaw— Saturday, June 28, 2025
Mehri Abdolghaderi, a 25-year-old woman from Javanrud in Kermanshah (Kermashan) province, was severely injured in an acid attack by her husband in front of their eight-year-old son. She has lost vision in one eye and remains in critical condition at Golestan Hospital in Kermanshah. Her son also sustained burns to his hand.
According to information received by Hengaw Human Rights Organization, at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, Mehri’s husband, Yavar Salehi, attacked her with acid, severely burning her face, neck, head, and hands.
The attack took place after he took her and their son outside the city. When the child tried to intervene, he was first burned on his hand before Salehi poured acid on Mehri’s face.
Sources said Mehri had previously returned to her parents’ home due to conflicts with her husband but was persuaded to return after family mediation. Just hours after going back, she was attacked.
As a result of the assault, Mehri sustained severe injuries and lost vision in one eye. She and her son were transferred to Golestan Hospital in Kermanshah, where her condition remains critical.
Despite 12 days having passed since the attack and an official complaint filed by her family, authorities have taken no action to arrest the perpetrator, who remains at large in Javanrud.
