Femicide: Solmaz Abbasi brutally murdered by her husband in Urmia

Solmaz Abbasi, a volleyball coach based in Urmia, was brutally stabbed to death by her husband. The motive, based on preliminary reports, was her request for a divorce.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the incident occurred on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the office of Abbasi’s lawyer, where she was attacked and fatally stabbed by her husband.

Sources close to the case reported that the assailant killed his wife in response to her decision to seek a divorce and subsequently attempted to take his own life after committing the crime.
