Sarmad Sajadi, a nine-month-old Kurdish infant from Marivan, was killed after being struck by shrapnel from a projectile fired by the air defense units of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). His father, Loqman Sajadi, sustained a serious injury to his arm.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the incident occurred on Friday, June 20, 2025, in the village of Dara Tafi, a rural area near Marivan.

A source familiar with the case stated that the family, who resides in Marivan, had traveled to Dara Tafi to visit relatives. While standing outside a family home, they were struck by shrapnel from an IRGC-fired projectile.

As a result, Sarmad Sajadi was fatally hit in the head and died instantly. His father, Loqman Sajadi, was seriously wounded in the arm and has been transferred to a medical facility in Tehran for treatment.

Local residents reported that the projectile was launched from an IRGC base in the nearby village of Bieleh. The reason for the firing remains unknown.

Hengaw has repeatedly warned about the IRGC’s deployment of military equipment near residential areas amid the war with Israel, and the increasing use of civilians as human shields.
