Ayhan Ebrahimi Alikani imprisoned in Urmia to serve one-year sentence

Hengaw – Thursday, July 3, 2025
Ayhan Ebrahimi Alikani, a 29-year-old Kurdish man from Urmia and a nursing graduate from Guilan University of Medical Sciences, has been arrested to serve a one-year prison sentence and transferred to Urmia Central Prison.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Ebrahimi was detained on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, to begin serving his sentence.
Sources familiar with the case report that the sentence was recently issued by Branch 2 of the Urmia Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Shahini, and has been finalized.
Previously, in early Mehr 1403, Ebrahimi had been sentenced to six years in prison—taking into account time already served—by Branch 3 of the Urmia Revolutionary Court, under Judges Barzkar and Najafzadeh, on charges of “membership in groups opposed to the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Following an appeal, Branch 39 of the Supreme Court overturned that ruling, and the case was referred to a parallel branch of the Urmia Revolutionary Court for retrial.
Ebrahimi was initially arrested on July 9, 2024, by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence at his family home in Urmia. The arrest was carried out with threats and physical force. After ten days in the Intelligence Detention Center, he was transferred to the security ward of Urmia Central Prison. Ebrahimi was later released on temporary bail of 2 billion tomans, pending the conclusion of judicial proceedings.
