Shush – Landmine explosion kills two children

Two children, aged 10 and 11, were killed in a landmine explosion in the border areas of Shush, Khuzestan Province. The landmines were remnants of the eight-year Iran-Iraq war. The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed.

According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the incident occurred on Friday, July 4, 2025, in the border village of Mohammad Shaqati (Dosalegh), located in the Fath ol-Mobin District of Shush County. Both victims were Arab children from the region.

ILNA News Agency reported that recent excavation work had been carried out near the village. The children discovered an unidentified object at one of the sites and began playing with it when it suddenly exploded.

One child died instantly at the scene, while the second succumbed to severe injuries after being transferred to Nezam Mafi Hospital in Shush.
