A tragic incident unfolded in Dasht - e Azadegan County of Khuzestan province as a result of a landmine explosion left over from the 8-year Iran-Iraq war, resulting in one fatality and three injuries, including two children.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, a 19-year-old youth lost his life in the village of "Nabaa" in Bostan City, Dasht-e Azadegan County, due to a landmine explosion.

Arif Sharhani, spokesperson for the Khuzestan emergency department, informed IRNA news agency that two children, aged 10 and 12, along with a 57-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries in the blast and were promptly transported to a hospital in Susangerd city of Khuzestan for medical treatment.

Based on statistics registered in the Statistics and Documents Center of the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, in 2023, at least 7 individuals lost their lives in border areas due to mine and munition explosions, with an additional 20 individuals sustaining injuries or requiring amputations. Notably, 26 of these cases were recorded within the borders of Ilam, Kermanshah, Sanandaj (Kurdistan), and Urmia (West Azarbaijan).
