Iranian authorities execute three prisoners, including an Afghan national, in Karaj and Mashhad

Iranian authorities executed three prisoners in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj and Mashhad Central Prison (Vakilabad). They were identified as Omid Hassan-zadeh, an Afghan national whose identity has not yet been confirmed, and Sajad Mohajer. The men had previously been convicted on charges of "premeditated murder" and "drug-related offenses."
Hengaw Organization for Human Rights has learned that, Hassan-zadeh and the unidentified Afghan national were put to death in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
According to Iran Human Rights Organization, the two prisoners had been arrested earlier on "drug-related charges" and later sentenced to death by Iran’s judiciary.
Separately, on Sunday, September 14, 2025, authorities executed Sajad Mohajer, a resident of Mashhad, in Mashhad Central Prison. He had been arrested two years ago on charges of "premeditated murder" during a dispute and subsequently sentenced to death.
The executions of the three prisoners had not been reported in state-run media, including judiciary-affiliated outlets.
