IRGC member kills Leila Alirmaei in Marivan after she refused to marry him

Leila Alirmaei, a 40-year-old woman from Marivan, was shot dead by one of her neighbors, who is a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to reports, the perpetrator killed her after she refused his demand to divorce her husband and marry him.

According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Alirmaei, a resident of the Hejrat neighborhood (Jojeh Sazi area) in Marivan and originally from the village of Beysaran, was shot and killed with a Kalashnikov rifle by her neighbor, identified as Keywan Basami, an active member of the IRGC. The incident occurred on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

A source familiar with the case told Hengaw that Basami went to Alirmaei’s home and pressured her to separate from her husband and marry him. When she refused, he opened fire with a Kalashnikov rifle in front of her house and plastic shop, located near a school, killing her instantly.

The same source said Basami, who is married to two women, has a documented history of domestic violence against both. He previously attacked his first wife with a knife, and his second wife has filed for divorce due to continued abuse. Her case is currently under judicial review.

Alirmaei was married and the mother of two young children, a daughter and a son, who were at school when the crime occurred. Her husband was not at home at the time.

The perpetrator was arrested shortly after the killing, and Alirmaei’s body was transferred to the Marivan Forensic Medicine Department. She was laid to rest on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Darsiran Cemetery in Marivan.
